We join the regular tour today at the Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club. There will be 22 of us on a bus that holds twice that many. Darn.
Dalmahoy main entrance, a very old house. Additions contain most of the bedrooms.
Our transport for the next two weeks. Leave the driving to (b)us!
The hotel is 9 miles from Edinburgh. Here are two shots of the Edinburgh Castle from the back of the building.
Edinburgh Castle far.
Edinburgh Castle zoomed. Even a bit of Calton Hll a mile or so beyond that.
The afternoon is spent visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia, http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk, decommissioned in 1997. The last of a long line. There will not be another one.
Can’t get the whole yacht in one shot. It’s too big!
The Queen’s bedroom. Prince Phillip has his own.
One of the upper class officers’ dining area.
Chuck, Diana, and the boys.
A table for two please by a window?
The Royals’ lounge.
Wounded Corgi in sickbay.
Help! I need something better to read! How about Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe?!
No place was ever more shipshape than the yacht of the Queen of England. A self-guided audio tour is included with admission. Very informative. All the ships clocks are set to 3:01, when the Queen last left the ship at the 1997 decommissioning. It is said she really really felt at home there and cried when leaving.
John, don’t be a snob. 🙂 Dick Francis [at least until he started writing by formula] were fun too.
