Lens-Artists Challenge # 83 – Future

[Categories: Photography, Photography 101 Forever
[Photos this week are hosted right here on WordPress.  Somewhere… ]

The Lens Artists Challenge is hosted this week by Leya.

She says: “The future is the period of time that will come after the present, or the things that will happen then.” … “Show us what you will paint on Your canvas!”

Hmm. Those of us interested in science fiction, horology, or spacetime may look for a time warp, black hole, or alternate universe from which to take a picture.

Lapham’s Quarterly historical journal did an issue on The Future and its cousin Time, on which I’ve commented in other blog posts:

Lapham’s Quarterly Fall 2011: The Future

Lapham’s Quarterly Fall 2011: The Future (Do you have time…?)

Lapham’s Quarterly Fall 2014: Time
(My perception of calendar and questioning Einstein are in this one.)

One can quickly get mired in philosophical debate and mind games about Future, Present, and Past. FuturePresentPast FuturePresentPast FuturePresentPast FuturePresentPast. I’m easily bewildered.

Can we keep it simple?

S’winter here this week. Pronounced ‘swinter’, meaning ‘it is winter’, in my personal lexicon.

This is the present, at least it was when I took the photo today:

This is what I saw as the future, which was recorded as a present, and is now definitely past:

The defense rests. I’m not sure I’ve hit anywhere near the mark, wherever the mark is, likely in the future somewhere. At least I used brand new photos, though I suspect taking pictures of the future still eludes me.

Originality is not my forte. I am an admitted copiest, so I will see if there is inspiration in other posts as the week progresses (into the future?).

Kudos to the tireless leaders of the weekly Lens-Artists challenge.

Best wishes for 2020.

Oh, I love this, John – and I don’t agree with you on originality! You are not only a copier – you are original, we are all original… You put a big smile on my face with this philosophic post – and I believe all of them are present: The past, the now and the future. I think you have already proved it. And thank you for the links. 🙂
Let’s see if you find some inspirational answers further on…in the future! You are welcome again!

I had to laugh at your response John – if you figure out how to take photos in the future please let us know!! I think your post is very clever.

  3. Cheers to clearing a path to a clever future post! Nice! Do you hire out? – We’re getting a fresh blast of 5 or so inches of the dreaded white ‘swinter’ stuff.

  4. A great interpretation of the challenge, John. I hope there’s no more snow in our future, at least for this winter, but the forecast doesn’t look good.

  5. Amy says:

That is a clever response. It looks like a long winter ahead in some places.

    Dear John,
we envy you for the snow. We miss the snow here very much.
Your picture is for us the past before global warming when we had snow here as well. We really like your picture as it shows such a typical winter mood.

  12. John, what a fun post. Like your example of using the snow (or lack of it) to represent the present, envisioned future and then the results showing the past – creative thinking! BTW, your snow shoveling skills are quite good!
