Lens-Artists Challenge #119 – My Hideaway

The Lens-Artists Challenge is hosted this week by Leya.

Says she: “A Hideaway, is a place to which a person can retreat for safety, privacy, relaxation, to seek seclusion or refuge.”

This is my reading nook hideaway. It’s comfy and fairly quiet. (OhMyGoodness, there is no TV here!!)

My inner sanctum hideaway is the guest bedroom, VERY rarely used by guests. I take my naps here, reclining on multiple angled pillows. I watch toooo much tv here, assisted by Bose headphones to clarify foreign accents or poor sound editing.

My acoustic guitar is here, along with a busker amp I bought in England nearly thirty years ago. I love playing and singing, despite my mediocrity, so I try to play once or twice a year. Really! I have lots of songbooks, and old Beatles tunes are favorites, along with the occasional low-down-dirty-heart-breakin’ blues.

I do some reading here too. I’m nearly 40% through Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, a boy’s tale so far, it seems to me, but that’s fine, as I’m quite juvenile, despite my advancing age. Lapham’s Quarterly is my reading passion, though.

Speaking of Hideaway, who remembers this one:

“Hideaway (come on)
Far from the light of day (come on)
Leaving the world behind
And out of mind
A place we’ll find
Where we can hideaway” (by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich)

Yeah, me neither.

Stay safe, be well. Be kind to one another.

  1. Ah, seems the ultimate hideaways, John. The comfy chair and the sofa to recline with TV and guitar – and singing! I used to sing too, but no more. Rusty, really now. Soprano in different choirs. Recognize Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich – but no idea about the lyrics there…I really should listen to music more – I think I somehow lost it over the busy years. Life, you know.
David Copperfield I saw as a series on TV, never read it. I might try. If I had a corner as cosy as yours…with the light shining in. No sofa in my glasshouse!

  2. Looks like you’re all set there John! Your cozy reading nook with no TV is, I’m guessing, quite a rarity these days. How nice to be able to completely avoid the political commercials these days!!

  3. Thanks for this glimpse of your hideaway, John. It’s a perfect spot for you to read and play music. I have an alcove off our living room with a desk in our apartment. It’s enough–thanks to my Bose headset!

    1. It’s an Ibanez GA35TCE (AEQ210T) Classical Acoustic Electric Guitar, with a fairly standard, non-classical neck width. It’s the first nylon-stringed guitar I’ve owned, as I play so infrequently I never develop calluses and tired of the agony.
