The Lens-Artists Challenge is hosted this week by Tina.

Says she: “We’d love for you to share something that was a treat for you…”

Flying is a treat for me. To soar with eagles, and look upon the great Earth from above.

Two occasions come to mind. One, a helicopter tour of Kauai Island, in the Hawaiians, an isle of dry canyons and some of the most rainfall in the world. “One of the wettest spots on earth, with an annual average rainfall of 460 inches (38.3 ft; 11.7 m), is located on the east side of Mount Waiʻaleʻale.” (Wikipedia)

The other is a seaplane tour in Alaska, around Mt. Denali, and landing on a mountain lake for a picnic lunch.

Stay safe, be well. Be kind to one another.

  1. I’m so jealous, John! I’m with you on both your flying expeditions and your taking of such beautiful photos! I’ve been in a small plane just once, with a new pilot. What an adventure. Too bad he wasn’t licensed to fly above the clouds. Now I’ve got to find the photos. Thanks for the idea!

  2. Definitely delightful treats John! I did the same helicopter tour in Hawaii which was marvelous but did you see the flight crashed and all the passengers were killed a few years back? Glad I did it before that or I’d never have gone. In alaska we’d booked a “flight seeing” tour of Mt. Denali but it was so fogged in we couldn’t go and it was our last day there so we were sad about that.

  3. Both top treats, John! I have a big smile planted over my face when I see snow – we do not get any snow to talk about here anymore. Alaska – Would so like to go. Thank you for being my aviator!

  4. I enjoyed your images from high above the earth. I have been a pilot for over 20 years now, and I never tire of the views of terra firma from above. I have flown over the western side of Kauai, but have not flown in Alaska. I’m going to have to fix that.
