Lens-Artists Challenge #126 – An Alphabet Challenge–Subjects That Begin with the Letter A.

[Categories: Photography, Photography 101 Forever]

Patti sez: “What images can you find that feature a subject that begins with the letter A?”

Aardvark? (Of which I have no pictures.) Azimuth? Difficult to represent. Architecture (have lots), animals (lots), Arapahoe National Forest, autumn (tons and tons of autumn, inundated and overloaded this time of year, no autumn now, please), Aachen (cathedral and town), Amsterdam (I have a lot of those)???

Aardvark first came to mind as the first word in the dictionary beginning with ‘a’  (acronyms and place names like Aachen aside). Azimuth came to mind as one of the last. Not having a printed dictionary, I’ve found in hard to verify the last word, though I did find azoic (having no living beings) comes after azimuth.

Google was not helpful, but I did find that the FIRST word in the ‘a’ section (asides aside) is… wait for it… ‘a’! As an indefinite article might be most common: “used as a function word before singular nouns when the referent is unspecified: a man overboard, and before number collectives and some numbers: a dozen” —Mirriam-Webster.

Thus, I start (and finish?) with ‘a’ rock:

…at the Cliffs of Mohrer, Ireland. “And handsome is as handsome did it, too!” –Billy Budd, Herman Melville.

The defense rests. Should the muses strike me again, if they even have the first time, “Ah’ll be back”. (Ahr-nold Schwarzenegger, countless movies.)

Stay safe, be well. Be kind to one another. (Keep your sense of humor, sometimes it’s all we have left!) 🙂 😉 🙂

  1. Great post John! You always twist the challenge in a unique way. And, I saw the face in the rock immediately! If he gets too tired of the pandemic, it looks like he can blow his stack through what looks like chimneys at the top.
