RE: Tina “This week the Lens-Artists team invites you to join us in exploring the magic of light.“
To restate the obvious: It IS all about the LIGHT.
photograph (n.)
“a picture obtained by any process of photography,” 1839, coined by English polymath and photography pioneer Sir John Herschel (son of the astronomer) from photo– “light” + –graph “something written.”
Rembrandt might have perceived nuance in black rectangles, the rest of us, not so much. Some photos are taken in the dark:
…or at night:
[A right-click might allow you to open a photo in another tab, for further zooming. Experiment, if you so choose.]
Add a little more light and you get a blowing snowstorm in the park at night:
As the sun slowly rises in the east, early dawn light combines with shadows on snow, on the flanks of Cotopaxi:
Shadow, light, and snow preface rolling landscape farrrrr below Cotopaxi:
Early winter snow in the Colorado mountains turns another color photo toward monochrome:
Finally, light loves color. A good friend, long gone, trudges toward destiny against a backdrop of Colorado mountains:
Stay safe, stay well, let there be light!
Wonderfully artistic. Love them all!

John, those are such lovely photos. I thought it couldn’t get any better when I scrolled down to the snowstorm, then the flanks of Cotopaxi peeked over my cursor. WOW! I could hardly tear myself away then the birds-eye view appeared. I almost quit scrolling right there! Thanks for sharing all these wonderful pictures.

The park with the snowstorm was my favorite, John. Almost looks like it could have been in “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

The Phantom of the Opera setting was perfectly mysterious and gothic. I was most taken up by Cotopaxi. Was reading the name perhaps for the first time since I left school. I had to google it and it opened flood gates of memories. It is now more than just a name thanks to your post, John.
