LENS-ARTISTS CHALLENGE #180 – Favorite Images of the Year, 2021

Tina leads.

Photographers take photographs. I take pictures. So many pictures, so little time. Here are a few of my favorites I posted last year.

I love water drops. These are on our patio geraniums:

Next is my favorite history publication, Lapham’s Quarterly, which has yet to publish: the Summer 2021 issue, normally out in June of a year, or Fall 2021, or Winter 2022. But never fear, they are still taking subscriptions if you’d like to sign up! My favorite desk lamp and self-spinning, unmotorized globe are included also.

The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is mesmerizing if your neck can stand the strain. (Who was that Herr Mesmer?)

Still, one of my most personal favorites is this old car, out standing in its field, all by itself, alone, soooo alone. There is likely little if any story about it, probably placed there to look ‘interesting’. It’s photogenic, IMHO, despite the lack of verdant greens, such are dry Colorado pastures often.

These are a few of my favorite things.

Stay well, stay safe, be weird, wonderful, shapely and designed, follow your bliss, celebrate your celebrity, be choosy and serene. Have a good year.

  1. Happy New Year, John!
That photo of the old car is beautiful and sad for me at the same time. Whenever I see a car wasting away somewhere, I think that there was a day when a family first hopped into their new ride for the first time, excited and happy. Or maybe it was a work vehicle and how the new owner must have felt proud and happy to have been able to purchase a new vehicle.

  2. Excellent choices to end/begin the year John – what’s up with Lapham’s???? The composition on that one is lovely BTW. And I too loved the abandoned car – really makes you wonder doesn’t it? I think there’s a fun story there somewhere!! Wishing a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours.

  3. Happy New Year John! What do you mean–“You just take photos!” This post shows your expertise as a photographer! I love the Lapham still life and the water drops. I’m so looking forward to seeing your special twist to challenges this year.

  4. The old car in the field is special and certain has a story to tell. It is interesting how carefully the grass is cut around it so tall weeds do not distract from it’s lovely appearance! A great shot.

  5. Love the top pic, the colours are so vibrant and the drops – always look better when hydrates as I well know coming from a semi arid region! didnt know old cars were left lying about in the states as they are here in Africa

    1. RE: old cars left around, they aren’t ‘everywhere’. Don’t want to give you a false impression. Somewhat more likely in rural areas, and they like to gather in pseudo-junkyards.
