“There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all”
“In My Life” is a song by The Beatles written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. (Per genius.com)
‘The mountains’ are my special place. In 50+ years of more or less near total habitation thereof, I’ve never tired of looking at altitudinous rocks and trees, lakes and streams. I’ve side-lined my snow skiing as of this year, pacing my creaky joints for the long term, but it has been one of the pure joys and exhilarations of my life.
Skiing does have its ups and downs. This is an up:

These are soon to be downs:

This is one day’s record of ups and downs:

It has been VERY frosty in Colorado since winter finally arrived, but these memorable photos give me a warm and fuzzy.
Have a good year.
Great choice John, what lovely snowy mountain scenes. Love the extract from the Beatles Song too

Wonderful photos, John. Just gorgeous. My son is an avid skier, but I’ve had to “retire” from that sport and ice skating. Maybe after we get bionic knees we can start again??

Terrific choice for the week John – and you opened with one of my favorite all-time songs. I’ve also always loved John Muir’s quote – “The mountains are calling and I must go”. The exhilaration and the feeling of the rush of that pristine air as you fly along while skiing is hard to beat. I gave it up when we moved south and while I may miss the positives, I’ll admit I do NOT miss the cold. Once you leave the slopes, unfortunately the cold remains. But the mountains have a beauty all their own, especially under a fresh coat of snow – which you’ve clearly showing with your wonderful images.

Thank you. We have the Muir quote hanging over our interior entryway. 🙂

Your beautiful shots make me remember some good years of living in Colorado, several of them in Steamboat Springs, as well as a winter lived in Grindelwald, Switzerland. I think you know mountains are my special place as well, but I added some different special places for this post.

Ooo, skiing! I miss it, it’s been about 15 years since I did it last. I loved the swishing, the speed and the liberty it brings. I would fall too, yes. But never mind…

How beautiful, John. How do you have time to take pictures like this when you are skiing?

Pause, and smell the roses.

haha, I didn’t see too many roses growing out of the slopes. I never became a skiier – too scary. I like your new picture.

Your pictures are wonderful and took me right there. I don’t ski, nor do I sled, but I love the snow and countries that have lots of snow, so I’m a regular visitor to places that have heavy snow – favourite being Switzerland and Austria.
