The Lens-Artists Challenge is hosted this week by Tina.

To paraphrase Tina: “The entire world has been trudging wearily along the long and winding road of pandemic, and protests, that most of us would not have believed possible even a few short months ago…”

I have chosen DIRT roads, to pair with my banner quote and picture. Each is prefaced by theme-related song lyrics, such is how my mind works, the frustrated singer from an alternate universe, or whatever.

The Long and Winding Road – The Beatles (Duh! No-brainer!!):
“The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I’ve seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to you door…”

Gateway, Colorado, near Gateway Canyons Resort:

Working My Way Back To You, Babe – The Four Seasons (and the Spinners):
“I’m workin’ my way back to you babe
With a burnin’ love inside
Yeah I’m workin’ my way back to you babe
And the happiness that died…”

Feeling sheepish? At least they aren’t angry longhorns, highlands cattle, or big buffalo. Back road from Gateway, CO to Moab, UT. Quiet. Very quiet.

Century City – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers:
“We’re gonna live in Century City
Go ahead and give in, Century City
Like modern men, modern girls
We’re gonna live in the modern world…”

That ol’ back road again. Most of it is better than this:

For What It’s Worth – Buffalo Springfield:
“We better stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down…”

Following is NOT that ol’ back road again. ‘For what it’s worth’, it is definitely the road less traveled. This one is at Big Hole National Battlefield, Montana, the site of yet another confrontation and attack on American Indians:

Ooh. I almost forgot! A classic!

Country Roads – John Denver:
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, Mountain Mama
Take me home, country roads…”

I LOVE Colorado autumns. They’re special, for those of us who live here. Oh how I wish I still had that Jeep, too. It was a beaut.

Thanks again to Tina for her heartfelt words in her post. C’mon people, we can do better!

Stay safe, be well. Be kind to one another.

Kudos to the tireless leaders of the weekly Lens-Artists challenge. ONE HUNDRED!

  1. Loved your response this week John – the roads are great and your songs made my heart happy. Of course you, and I of course, are saying something about oldies but goodies aren’t we?!
